Ever wondered if the colour of your gemstone jewellery is natural? Did you know that many gemstones are dyed or enhanced in other ways to in order to deepen the colour or improve the clarity of the stone? This is a list of some of the methods used; assembled, bleaching, coating, dyeing, filling, gamma/electron radiation, heating, infilling, lasering, resin infusion, irradiation, bonding, diffusion and waxing. You do have the right to know what you are purchasing, whether your gemstone jewellery has natural gemstones, enhanced or treated gemstones, or synthetic gemstones. A natural gemstone that is enhanced can still be labelled a natural gemstone.
A natural gemstone is a mineral, stone or organic matter which has been formed in nature without any human intervention. As gemstones are created naturally, no two are exactly alike making them even more appealing. Natural gemstones, also known as crystals, often have inclusions or imperfections which is proof that the gemstone is natural.
