My Philosophy On Life: Welcome to Gentle Yoga Senior led by Shay Eastham. Shay began a lifelong pursuit of yoga at 19 in Texas and has continued studying over time through classes and mentoring from teachers in South Carolina and Arizona. After moving to California, her passion blossomed and she began a series of teacher training courses, becoming certified by Yoga Alliance n 2003. Throughout this time yoga itself grew in the United States becoming mostly recognized by the type poses presented in the classes – you had athletic yoga, “hot” yoga, and many other names became popular. Now most even small communities, health clubs, senior recreation centers and colleges offer some form of asana classes. It is very hard to sift through all the marketing to find a deeper yoga as practiced from ancient times. Since 2003, Shay has been teaching small and large group classes at recreation centers, yoga studios and in private settings, sharing her passion and introducing others to pleasure of yoga. Yoga became a central figure in Shay’s life as she continued her advanced studies, finding renewed energy, well-being, and joy in her relationships and work. This DVD is but a small part of yoga, a simple beginning for you to understand how you may affect your own health, mental state of being and happiness through this asana practice. Shay is currently studying through Healing Yoga Foundation to develop other complexities of yoga through pranayama (breath work), meditation and chanting. Yoga can change your life style, life choices and life joy. It can bring healing on every level. Take your first step and commit to a daily practice – a mere half hour toward a new life. From Shay: This is a series of poses to open you breath, body and mind. How can you approach this new body work? Try just practicing one pose at a time, repeating it 4-6 times until you feel comfortable that you can easily watch the DVD, listen and do the pose without stress. Then try the next pose. I find I am drawn to some more than others and may add one of them to my routine at bedtime to relax my back or shoulders before bed. Or, you may want to try some of them first thing in the morning. All the poses shown lying down can be completed before you get out of bed in the morning, making that transition into your day more comfortable. Have a friend over and practice with the DVD and then have tea or have a party doing yoga. Just a routine of doing something good for you body, brings pleasure especially as you notice the changes in how you feel. Every day I look forward to my practice – my own time to enjoy.
