and what drew you to it? Did you consider perhaps spiritual healing or other forms of energy work as well?

Would be interested to hear others' stories :)

Hello there in answer to your question

We all have these "Skills" within us and yet we do not perceive this.
Why do we wait for some one to come along and tell us? I wonder

Reiki is known to be a Japanese Ancient Healing Approach and can be utilised by anyone. The 'western' way is also a universal and spiritual ancient way. I was raised as a 7th generational mystic learning the arts of the Earth. Herbal remedy, moon gardening, planetary psychology, tarot interpretation and making use of Universal healing energy etc

I learned along my way about being initiated to Reiki which is what I understood being raised as a Japanese modality alike the western form of 'spiritual healing' and cosmic energy. Although their seemed to be no age limit, for insurance and legislation 'Post 16' is a safe age to be working with.

Reiki is for those who wish to learn from their own frame of reference in connecting with the Cosmos. Reiki/ Universal Energy is open to interpretation as everything else is in life. Once starting the path to becoming whole, I am sure there will be no regrets in folks decisions to receive and attuned with the connecting cosmos and the Universes energy.

My Experience with 'Reiki' it being a Japanese philosophy and application

As I have grown with many forms of healing modalities most of my life,
looking at the bigger picture has taken a lot of patience and tolerance. I am Learn-Ed with a Western perspective of Spirit Energy 'healing'

THEN 14 years ago I met a Reiki "Master".
Together we healthily explored, debated and almost argued compassionately around the Reiki/Energy "theories".

I, at the time of meeting "my" Reiki Master
(MY in this context being an operative word) did not want to label the learning and inherited skills that I had already acquired at deep depths of learning with my Grandma who is my mentor still at 96 years of age, who is my Mentor and loved one.

I felt that the word Reiki is a Japanese word and modality of making use of Universal Energy and YES~ can compliment who I am!

It was time to honour the learning and to be attuned to Reiki
This universal Life Universal life force that my Grandma had taught me about.

My Attunements
My attunements are experiential and experiences that shall ever stay within me
and that I shall never forget. I have been a conscientious Mystic for 30 years 'working' with Esoteric Energy and I have come to learn and value many things.
The best of my self initiated learning .

My Master Learning attunement was a most special time in my life.
Bringing THE WHOLE ME together.

I have been 'working' in the WHolistic fields of healing it feels, for all time.
and as said above an 'inherited' Mystic. I was already conditioned to understand the 'cosmic force' and Universal energy and had been in a shamanic Vision quest where I had a very deep journey and experience.

ON MAY 5th 2000 a very important alignment, in the sky, took place. This having significant affect upon my own rights of passage and bringing the W*HOLE into my own awareness. A clearing of the old to make way for the new and what I saw as a crowning glory to my shamanic and wholistic healing experiences, in many respects.

"My" Master Teacher and I took on the challenge and aligned parallel Planets to the chakras. This bringing myself to my own initiated state of Master Learner

Now as a s a "Master" ( I place Master in invert eds because I feel more of a Master Learner than a Master of any individual learning) I am able to pass on my learning and healing. I am whole and feel good about the work I have, I do and will encounter.

I live to work not work to live ~ It has taken effort and the reward is *NOW* ~ I am able to be in the NOW and work with a composed Centered and open minded ethos.

Thank you for the opportunity to share some of my reasons for choosing Reiki

Interesting question. Honestly, I'm purposely avoiding Reiki because soooo many people are involved in it these days. Please....no hate mail.....I'm not against it. I'm actually interested in learning how Reiki compares to the energy work that I am familiar with. The only problem is that in order for me to gain some further knowledge about Reiki, I have to sign up for some kind of certification class, unless anyone knows a good website that talks about the energy techniques involved with Reiki. I really don't want to be certified in Reiki, but I'd like to see how it is taught, if that makes sense. :)

Peace,
Dawn

Hi Alun
I was drawn initially to Reiki when I turned in desperation to alternative treatments for a condition which I had. I was totally blown away by the way that my pain was
diminished even after one treatment and from that moment on every way I turned Reiki was there. This led to me following courses and being attuned myself
resulting in me now teaching Reiki to others, some of whom are now also teaching others. I guess you could say I have reached a point in my development where I live and breathe healing.Practicing Reiki served to open me to spiritual awareness and this is something which I am further developing .

Dawn I find your question fascinating and don't worry I have no intentions of jumping on you for raising the question. In the first instance, here in the UK at least, to practice healing we must be insured so have to follow recognised courses and have reached a certain level to be able to do so. Currently, completing courses to the 2nd Degree allow this. So we have the situation where we need to have a recognised "label" and in my case the label is Reiki.

Now when teaching others I stick to the ways of Reiki as it was taught to me, but have to confess that my own practice has moved on from what I teach and what I was taught. I have also read and spoke to others extensively about other healing methods and have come to the following conclusions.

1 There is one source of energy which we all utilise for healing, regardless of the label we apply

2 Each and everyone of us can tap into this source and we do not need to go through rituals such as attunements to achieve this, although attunements are very powerful events which serve to open us more to tapping into healing energies.

3 The desire to help others and the intent to bring relief to others are enough of a trigger to enable the flow of healing energies

4 We do not need to go chasing other "labels" to enhance our capacity to act as healers- and I realise that many will argue against me on this one and suggest I really should try out Quantum Touch or one of the hundred variations of Reiki which now abound. My answer to this would be the same one I have given others when challenged on this subject- our abilities are enhanced by practice and commitment, not by chasing more labels. And I really can't for the life of me beleive that the energy of say dolphins is isolated from the universal energies and can only be tapped into if you have been attuned to Dolphin Reiki.

To sum up the teachings of Reiki enabled me to start in the development path of healing- it was my key and I will always honour this fact. And I will continue to use it as a key to be offered to those who also seek to practice healing and of course be there to guide and help them as their own development moves them on from what is taught.
Hope this helps

Namaste

Hi Alun
I had a reiki treatment and was hooked and wanted to learn and find out more for it - it was a good healing module for me to learn and it then took me on a journey or wanting to learn more and more. So in time I learnt swedish massage, then many other practices in bodywork. I love it all, I dont use the Reiki these days for a treatment as I find more want massage, however the reiki will just flow if the client is in need of it. So thanks to reiki its lead me to so many other exciting things and opened me to every possibility.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the explanation. We have to be insured in the States, too, which only makes sense to ensure people's well-being. I agree with your take on energy being universal and intention being important.

I think it's great when an interest in something opens one up to a whole new world! Reiki has done it for some....astrology did it for me. Hey, whatever gets the door opened.

Peace,
Dawn :)

Hi, Dawn. I'm curious to learn what type of energy work you are familiar with. Since Reiki is Universal Life Force Energy, chances are, you're already familiar with it and use it! If you are interested in Reiki, but aren't interested in getting attuned, you might check your area for reiki practitioners that might be presenting an informative speech or free 15 minute reiki sessions. If you are running into brick walls, please feel free to contact me and I will be more than happy to continue this discourse and help you find the answers you desire without trying to "push" you into reiki. :)

blessings,
Hallie B

Hi Hallie,

The energy work that I'm familiar with involves meditation and the release and replacement of energy. It also involves energy manipulation through visualization via thought and spirit interaction. I'm a spirit medium and the energy work that I utilize was taught to me by beings of Light in spirit. I know that sounds a little odd to most people, but it's just what I do. Anyway, I've always seen healing spirits helping people during medium (communication) sessions, so I asked my Spirit Guides to help me understand how it worked. Since then, I've learned that the power of the mind is simply incredible!

This technique begins with the fact that "thoughts' are actually things and not just fluff that passes through your brain. :) Once this is recognized and acknowledged, these thoughts can be manipulated and used in the alignment and balance of energy in the body and mind.

I had been practicing this for quite some time when I decided to get my hypnotherapy certification. Imagine my suprise when I realized that hypnotherapy was all about the power of the mind! As a spirit medium, I'm fortunate enough to see these healing spirits/beings of Light actually work on people during hypnotherapy. It's amazing!

So, to answer your question, the energy work that I'm familiar with has to do with the power of thought and all of its uses. There is no touch involved as the energy of thought and intent is strong enough to do the job. Is this what Reiki is like?

Peace,
Dawn :)

Has anybody had anything to do with 'Reconective Healing'? Is this just another form of Reiki?

Hi again Dawn
What you describe in your post is akin to using Reiki at distance, which students are taught at the 2nd Degree. When I teach methods of sending Distance Healing I give my students lots of ideas of how to focus to achieve this by using props. For example hold a photograph of the person, hold a teddy, imagine a large bubble filled with healing energy floating to where they are etc etc. In addition, Reiki practitioners also use the Reiki symbols which can additionally serve to focus intent and thoughts. I encourage them to be creative and use what works best for them but at the end of the day I do stress to them that their intent is key. I should also add that sending healing this way is not restricted to people but is also used to send to animals, plants and our whole environment.
Of course we are also reknowned for getting our hands on people too and this can involve working in the aura and indeed sitting back once they are away and sending through the focus of the eyes. I would be interested to hear your expereinces of actually getting hands on with someone - perhaps an experiment for you ;). If you want to see a hands on session in action , on my website there is a slideshow showing this.
And of course I also have experience of spirit intervention when practicing healing but that i feel is a whole new subject

Dawn, i haven't visited this site in a while and i apologize for not getting back to you sooner. It sounds to me that your guides and the Lightworkers assisting you in your sessions are basically doing what they do for us reiki practitioners! i might have a different view on reiki that others on this site, but i believe that reiki is a ton of things--because it is Universal Life Force Energy. that energy can be (and is) used for a gajillion things! and, as you mentioned in your work, there is no need for touch with reiki--and the INTENTION in the most important thing. the guides will carry the energy through as long as the intention is pure and positive. :)

blessings,
hallie bee
p.s. i have fond memories of riding the good ole P & B from mass. to nyc! (i noticed you are hail from brockton, mass) :)
