Hey guys, I have to say I am not one for dieting and my knowledge of nutrition is very poor. A couple of years ago I had a breakdown and suffered from depression and anxiety for quite some time afterwards. I was on anti depressants for 18 months and I am pleased to say that I am now completely off them and have been for about 4 months. I no longer suffer from depression to the extent of which I did (just normal occasional blues like everyone else) and seem to have gotten my life back on track, I have a new job and a new boyfriend and new hobbies and interests and I feel happy and more contented. However my energy levels still seem to be so low and no matter how much sleep I have I still feel tired. I lost my appetite for sometime but seem to have found it again!! So for a long time my diet was very poor, I lived off soup, nutritional milkshakes and multi vitamins, but am now shovelling anything into my mouth! ha ha ha What I am trying to ask is do you think that having had the poor diet due to the depression and anxiety has effected my health and my energy levels in some way now? And are there foods I should be eating inorder to get me back to a good physical health level again? To be honest I dont feel healthy at all and I do wonder if the past two years have had a impact on me at all..or am I just asking silly questions? he he he My new job is office based...so I sit on my butt all day, which is not ideal and when I get home I cant be bothered to exercise, this is not good, but I enjoy my job dont want to change it just yet. So...any ideas on the types of food I should be eating or exercise I could be doing which does not involve going to the gym (yawn!) to help boost my energy levels? All suggestions welcome (should I have said that?!) L x Quote |

Hi Leanne, have you had your endochrine system checked? The stomach energy is part of that, as are all the glands. Sounds to me like you could be low on IODINE. Lugols Iodine Solution, 1 drop in water per day, would give you the iodine you need. I would also suggest a good Naturopath. Quote |

Hi Leanne, its great you're feeling so much better. In answer to your question and in addition to Jon's post , yes- if your diet was poor then it will have had an effect on your immune system and it does take time to improve as good nutrition is the foundation to health. You say you are now eating just about anything /everything - but is it mainly processed stuff? As there is little or no 'life force' in these foods as is microwaved food as well. Generally speaking try to eat mainly fresh fruit / veg, soups great if you prepare it yourself, wholegrain rice, oats, fresh fish etc. Also juicing and sprouting seeds is a great way to get much needed enzymes and vitamins into your system. Keep mucous / acid forming foods like coffee, wheat and dairy to a minimum. Personally I am not an advocate of swallowing lots of vitamin tablets but a good mineral liquid tonic such as 'maximol' or 'source of life' ( both available from The Nutri centre) can give a boost when needed. Himalyan mountain salt is also a good source of vital minerals in a way your body can easily absorb. Make sure you drink plenty of water too... Finally I think you would benefit greatly from moving your body more - but I don't like sweaty gyms either! Much more beneficial ( and free!) to go outside and walk in nature -just build it up so you're getting your heart rate up for 10 to 20 mins a day; much easier to do now the lighter evenings are here.... Hope this has given you some ideas to try Jayne x Last edited: 15-04-2007 10:35:34 PM

Hey Guys, Thanks so much for the advice, I will definately think about your suggestions. I havnt had my endocrynes checked out Jon, would this be done by my GP? I have to say that I dont eat much processed food, I have a wonderful boyfriend who cooks from fresh every evening. He is a Vegitarian, so most of the food we eat is vegetable based. I am not a huge fan of Fruit, but then I suppose with the nice weather coming (or already here!) I will be eating more salad which will make up for this? You are def right about the water Jayne, I drink loads anyway because I am always thirsty, I did have a test for diabetes and anemia and an thyroid problems and also hormone imbalances a few years ago, but they all came back negative. I have also been tested for food allergies, which was rarely negative. I think you are probably right about being low in Iodine Jon, I will invest in some Lugols Iodine and see if that helps! Cheers guys!! L x Quote |

Leanne, your Naturopath could check out your systems.. Another point I would add to Jaynes wonderful suggestions, is, to make sure something in every meal you eat is RAW. This is no end of help to your digestive system. Quote |

Leanne, did you type in Neuropath ( as opposed to Naturopath) or was that just a spelling oversight on your post? A Naturapath will look at all aspects of your lifestyle- not just diet- so I'm afraid you won't escape the 'moving your body' bit which its clear you're avoiding! The key is to find something you enjoy doing- I'm not too good on exercise myself but luckily I have more of an outdoor lifestyle living by the sea and walking the dogs. I'm also hoping to start going to an agility class with my dog as I always thought it looked like fun- will let you know! Quote |

Ha ha ha, yes I was being thick! I typed in the wrong thing! Thanks Jayne. You know you have hit the nail on the head, I am a bit lazy when it comes to exercise, I suppose it is just one of those things that has grown out of my lifestyle as I've gotten older. ummmm.... what do I enjoy doing? will need to think more on that one... Hey I love dogs, unfortunatly my dog is too old now to go on long treks, do you think the cats would be up for it?! Good look with the agility class, that does sound like fun! L x Quote |

This is a bit random - and not about food either - but it might have value. Leanne, you mention feeling thirsty a lot and having had all those tests, and nothing coming back as being in any way abnormal. For years I had low energy and a thirstiness that almost drove me mad because it disrupted my thinking too - I felt as though my forehead was blocked. Is it that sort of thirstiness? Alison Quote |

Hi Leanne, I agree with Jane, Maximol would be an ideal tonic and would give you loads of vital minerals and vitamins that we all lack from our food these days. I can offer a dicount on the cost if you are interested as I purchase at wholesale. Drink plenty of good clean water and keep away from acidic foods as much as possible. Good luck, Richie. Quote |

Is ths normal? Surely not? L x I asked because it's possible that the low energy/thirstiness is linked to your third eye being blocked (and all that area - pituitary gland, pineal gland) - so it might be worth finding out a bit more about this Maybe it's time for some spiritual development. After 5 years of healing, physical and emotional clearing and spiritual work, my low energy/headaches/thirstiness/tired behind the eyes feeling has pretty much gone. Flower essences are a good place to start - have a look at www.crystalherbs.com. I'm not a healer and can only speak from my own experience - do all the food stuff as well. The 'clearing' stuff can be an extra activity if it feels right. Wishing you well, Alison Quote |
