I am in the process of launching a new website and would like to hear from anyone with their own website, with a view to exchanging links.
Anyone out there interested please contact me, thanks.

Hi Richie,

A note on link exchange.

As a general rule, link exchanges, whilst being touted as a great way to build traffic, are not generally as effective as one would like for them to be.

The reality is that there are a number of factors that affect the value of a link.

The more relevant the originating site [the site linking to you] is to your site, and the more highly trafficked and well linked it is [and the value of the link is as mentioned previously], the better the link will be for you.

Further, the algorithms designed by the search engines are, to the best of our knowledge, sophisticated enough to recognise 'link exchange' for what it is.

ie. if a robot visits site X and find a link to site Y, visits site Y and finds a link to site X it is likely to recognise a link exchange and not rank the value of the link as highly as if it were a 'genuine' link - one that has been created without a need for reciprocity.

trust this is helpful
