If you've used a forum before then you should find the Holistic Local forum easy to use, however if you've never used a discussion forum then here's a few simple instructions on how to use the forum

1. How to Start a New Topic

To start a new topic first click on the forum you wish to post in. ie 'General Discussion', 'Spirituality & Metaphysics','Ecology' etc etc.

Then in the top right hand corner of the screen you will see a link that says "Post New Topic" click this link and you will now be taken to a page where you can create your post.

2. How to Reply to Someone Else's Topic

There are two way you can reply to someone's topic. For both methods you need to be reading the topic you wish to add to.

First, you can click the "Post Reply" link at the top right hand corner of the forum.

Second, you click on the "Quote" link which is within each post. This is useful if you want to quote what someone has already said so that people know exactly what you're replying to.

3. Editing Your Post

Once you've submitted a post you are able to go back and make changes, or even delete your post if you wish. Simply find the post you want to edit or delete and in the bottom left corner of the post you'll see an "Edit" and "Delete". Click on these links to either edit or delete your post.

4. Formatting Your Text

You can change the formatting of your text slightly with options to Bold, Italicize and Underline.

While writing your post simply highlight the text you wish to format using your mouse, and then click on the B, I, or U button just above the message window.

You'll now see that little tags have been added to the front and ends of the text you're formatting. Be sure that you don't accidently delete these tags as you continue to work on your post.

5. How to link to other web sites

I'm adding some instructions about linking because I've noticed a lot of people are not creating clickable links within their forum posts.

It's a very simple process.

To create a clickable link simply click on the 'Link' button just above where you write your post (you should see 5 buttons - Bold, Italic, underline, Bullet, and Link).

When you click link a dialogue box will open and you will be asked for two pieces of information. The first is the link text - This could be absolutely anything from the actual URL or just 'Click here'.

Next you will be asked for Link URL. Here you need to copy in the actual web link which would usually be in the form of http://www.domain.com/page.htm

I always use keyboard shortcuts for copying and pasting. CTRL+c to copy and CTRL+v to paste, but you can also use the rightclick menu of your mouse.

I hope that makes sense.

Where do I mention a "Click" button on the keyboard? I think you must have misunderstood something. Let me know what and I'll make it clearer.

Anyway, there is no "Click" button on the keyboard.

Thanks for that Andy. I went back to a link I had not activated and carried out your instructions. Have since tested and it works. Yippee!
What held me up was that fact that first I need to high light it, and secondly because I was coming from the direct link - and not a 'click here' or whatever - I needed to copy and paste the URL in both the prompts. Thanks x

P.S. Like the new photo.

You may be 'the man' Asif, but your computer skils need a little polishing.
