It seems to me that Holistic Local would be an ideal place to organize local networking events, especially for promoting holistic businesses. Although my current website isn't really local in nature, I do have a little experience with leads groups, a specific type of networking group which usually meets weekly and members exchange leads and help each other promote their businesses.

Already it is possible with HL to find other holistic businesses in your area, which would be the first step in creating leads groups. You could also use the forums as a place to meet online; PM's to exchange information; and the Events listing to announce your group's meetings.

But there's probably a lot more that could be done. Does anyone here have experience with leads groups or running a holistic networking group? The group I worked with was not specifically holistic, and I can see other ways in which holistic businesses could promote each other besides traditional networking, ie. energetic or spiritual support.

Any more ideas?

Hi Katherine,

I have attended a couple of well being alliances and coaching networks where there was an oppotunity to network for the purposes of social support, referralls, joint business ventures.

The meetings I attended were about 30 miles from me, theres nothing local around here. (small town) Mostly held monthly with opportunities also for mini spiel or introduction and sometimes themed topics.

Would be very interested if you are willing to share some of your experiences and ideas.

Love Kim

Well, my direct experience was with working with a leads group in Bouder a couple years ago, when I was involved with Pre-Paid Legal.

Meetings were once a week starting at about 7:30AM. Members were limited to one profession in the group, so there was no competition. First, members introduced themselves and shared info abouit their business and then described kind of prospects they were looking for. Everyone exchanged quantities of business cards and members passed around the other members cards during the week. The group I was with was primarily business-to-business sales, so they also passed along relavent company information, but that probably wouldn't apply with holistic professionals. In addition to handing out cards, members would also pass along leads with the potential customer's information: name, phone, needs, etc (always with permission from customer, of course). After that, there was also general networking, talking, giving advice, support.

I was looking for their website to show everyone here, but they have either disbanded, renamed, or I am losing my mind. I did find another site that is a fair example of what a leads group is about, Boulder BNI. They are also part of a large Business Network, Int'l .

I can see HL as being a similar hub for netowrking groups, just with a holistic orientation, and not as expensive or as formal as BNI. . Maybe have some sort of networking kit available to members with a general outline for meetings, tips on organizing, sample leads slips, sample group marketing materials, etc. There could maybe even be a special "group" membership which includes one of HL's websites. That would be up to Andy, Jason, and Nick. I would be willing to help write some of the relavent materials, but I don't have experience *running* a group, nor running a *holistic* group, which would be necessary, in my opinion.

Hi Katharine,

I've also taken part in BNI meets, cant say Ive greatly enjoyed the speakers on the whole, but with a holistic slant, could be really interesting to learn about other disciplines.

And I like the idea of energetic support and have a couple of groups amongst my students for that purpose and looking to extend the model.

I think the social isolation being self employed and the usual lack of business know how often makes life challenging for therapists and a community such as HL is invaluable for us, enabling us to share and pool resources, ideas, etc.

Love Kim x
