Since suffering a very nasty attack of the dreaded 'winter vomiting bug' (norovirus) at the beginning of July, I find myself with no energy at all. :( I also have great need to sleep a lot - sometimes twice during the day, and then early to bed.

I realise that my system got emptied out of just about everything it had in it (three days of violent projectile vomiting & diarrhoea) and feel that I probably need to take some kind of multi-vitamins or similar. I bought some blackstrap molasses for the iron content (an acquired taste!!) but so far it's not had much effect.

Could someone please, perhaps from experience, suggest a brand of vits that I should take that will get me 'up to speed' again? I'm sick of being such a weary wimp! Thanks!

Helen, I would suggest finding a good herbalist.

Hi Helen and John,

Or you could try Seagreens which are sea vegetables. 2 x capsules in the morning. Assuming you don't take any medications or have any other health problem. I would also inlude a good acidophilus capsule to give you the correct stomach and bowel flora, after the bug you had.

S E A G R E E N S

Seagreens is a combination of pure wild seaweeds, rich in minerals, phytonutrients and trace elements, cleansing the body of toxicity and pollutants. The organic acids they contain and the iodine are natural detoxifiers, which attract and bind heavy metals like cadmium, arsenic and lead, as well as radioactive substances, and removes them from the body.

It is highly nutritious, supports digestion, aids detox and alkalises the body. It contains over 70 micro-nutrients, vitamins and minerals, and is packed with amino acids.

ALPHABETICAL INDICATIONS:

Alkalinity
Allergies and intolerances
Antibacterial and antibiotic
Autistic spectrum disorders
Blood pressure
Candida
Cardiovascular
Cholesterol
Diabetes
Digestion
Energy
Hyperactivity/ADHD
Indigestion
Metabolism
Mercury toxicity
Obesity
Pregnancy
Respiratory conditions
Scalp
Skin
Thyroid (dry, listless hair, poor circulation)
Ulcers
Weight gain

Thank you, Ann, I'll be looking into that, as well as some other things. Unfortunately I'm not very good at swallowing capsules, & tend to open them & sprinkle the contents on my food or in a drink!

Of course...sod's law...since I posted this - I'm feeling a little better!! Wouldn't ya just know it?!

I love to hear that Helen....that you are feeling so better now and maybe not need anything.

But if you are unable to swallow capsules then maybe open them and sprinkle them into cranberry juice or something like that.

My youngest son, who is age 23, had this problem all his life but after one session of EFT (emotional freedom technique), last year, it is not a problem now. She took him back to an incident when he was age 2 when he choked on a parsnip. I didn't think he remembered it until he told her!

He was really shocked after that one session to find he was able to swallow vitamins.

Ann xx:)

Maybe you need a really good Pro-biotic........like Living Streams.

I would agree with taking a pro-biotic.

I would also increase your mineral intake. I take my Chinese Mineral Chi Tonic that makes a world of a difference for me. Most of us are actually lacking minerals rather than vitamins.

Since it also took you a while to get rid of the bug, I would take some immune boosters for the winter, like Vit. D. & Vit. C and make sure you are eliminating at least 2-3 times a day. Our intestinal system is the first line of defense, if that's not working well, we weaken our defense system.

Hope this helps, Diane, www.thehealthytruth.net.

I have never had a problem in that area! Except for the few days after the bug - but I suppose it was because there simply wasn't anything in there to eliminate!

Thank you all for your suggestions - I am feeling much better now & actually starting to 'get into' new things for me. This weekend, off to a reiki drum workshop. This is good for me. perhaps after getting rid of all the 'cr@p' within, it's left room for more important stuff. :)

I find a broad brush VIT B supplement is good for when you're wrung out...
Iron can be hard to absorb but blackstrap is often better tolerated than prescribed iron. It worked for me once, bringing iron up 2 points over 3 weeks. Agree- acquired taste...might go down better in a half glass of slightly warm water. You can also get those Spatone water sachets with iron...to get the benefit of iron and no tummy upset, it needs to be taken with vit C and ideally a folic acid supplement...perhap avoid having dairy a little while either side of taking it as I have been told calcium blocks absorption of iron.

Katie Ellen, I would really like to know where you got this information.

Well, Jon, Helen had asked for suggestions, expressing an interest in also hearing some from experience.

The background to my input is; I have an aggressive auto-immune condition...very painful and hellishly boring. Making a study and experiment of it these twenty-five years has been one way not to fall off the perch or peck it to pieces in sheer frustration. LOL. There's a genetic factor involved, HLA B27, but possibly yersinia was a trigger following a big wasp stinging aged 19 (now 46) and I'm very interested in bacteria and viruses and their ability to stay in our systems and possibly in time become 'self'.

Fatigue and iron management is an ongoing issue, and if I take my eye of the ball or the illness flares again, and my iron dips too low, my muscles contract and I'm liable to spend some months in a wheelchair. The suggestions I shared with Helen I use for myself.

I have found herbalistm (and homeopathy, and other non-allopathic disciplines) very helpful on occasion, and thank heaven for them. It was a herbalist who first flagged up with me the enhanced benefit of taking iron with vit C plus folic acid a little away in time from calcium, (and I do include locally produced organically managed dairy in the family diet.)

By whatever means, I wish Helen a very speedy improvement.

Thats interesting Katie Ellen, I have found, since I read this, that a couple of naturopaths I know agrree with taking vit C with the iron, I'm still trying to find if the calcium blocks the absorption. What works for you is important for your journey and I wish you well. Thanks.

From what I know, calcium and iron should not be taken at the same time because they fight for absorption. This would mean that you would not know which mineral had managed the highest rate of absorption, if any.

Zinc is a good immune booster! I suggest liquid zinc as its more readily absorbed than a tablet
