This came to me from a friend, it appears England is as bad a the US and Australia.

Subject:Food for thought

Am I right in thinking that PAKI is short for Pakistani? Just an abbreviation?

Prince Harry calls a mate "Our little Paki friend" and is forced to apologise two years later. This guy was a mate of his for heavens sake!

Am I right in thinking that "Brit" is short for British? Should the Sun Newspaper be forced to apologise every time it prints the word Brit or The Brits are coming? Is the word Brit offensive?

Is "Scot" Offensive? "The Scots are coming". Another Sun Newspaper Football Clash Headline classic.

What about Ozzie? Kiwi? Pommie? Limey? Where or when will this lunacy end? The Cornish call all holiday makers "Grockles" Anything wrong with that?

If a Pakistani called you "His Brit friend" Would you feel offended? Would you demand an apology on National TV?

Of course not.

Del Trotter refers to "The Paki Shop" in one episode of Only Fools and Horses. (Now overdubbed for UK Gold with the offending word taken out, the episode when they build a nuclear fall out shelter).
Should Sir David Jason now apologise? Should the writer John Sullivan apologise? Should the BBC apologise?

What about the Fuzzywuzzies? "Dads Army"

What about "You stupid Kraut"? Fawlty Towers.
Both still being broadcast regularly with no overdub.

The Idiots are at it again trying to stir up racial hatred. It's just madness surely?

I'm happy being a BRIT, BRITISH, ENGLISH, POMMIE, LIMEY or whatever. I don't care a fig.
I only care when I'm called a racist..

I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT YEARS "BRIT AWARDS" ON THE TV.

LUCKILY, THANKS TO THE ZEALOTS, RACISTS AND BIGOTS THERE WILL NEVER BE A "PAKI AWARDS".

Oh no indeed, because all the Pakis will be at The Brit Awards. And us Brits won't mind at all will we?

There's something rotten in the barrel and nobody in government or local politics has the guts to stand up and say "GROW UP THE LOT OF YOU".

If you agree then pass this on.

If not then you still have the democratic right to delete it. (Well for the time being anyway).

The actual word should not be a problem, but the intent behind the word. I think the whole thing with Prince Harry was most definitely blown out of all proportion and I doubt he intended to use the word in a racist manner.

However, I think the article is a bit misleading, because unlike the words 'brit' and 'scot' the word paki is, more often than not, intended to be used in a highly derogative manner. Therefore it's probably a word that's best avoided, even if you're not a racist.

I hate pandering to political correctness, but there are definitely a small number of words that are always likely to cause offence in public, and probably 'paki' is one them, at least in the UK.

Isn't it because Paki refers to their colour, not their nationality? So a person might come from India, Malaysia, Egypt, etc etc, but they still get called Pakis. It is definitely a perjorative term for anybody with brown skin.

Not worth getting in a lather over, though.

What's CP got to do with it? Apologies if I seem thick, I don't get out much.

As I understand it, Pommy come from the word POME, which simply put, means Person of Mother England, so if your a POMMY you too can be saved, just emigrate. Nothing personal intended to all you POMMS. Everything has become so PC, you can't even tell Irish jokes, or blond ones, for that matter. Little people, i.e. dwarfs are referred to as vertically challenged, the blind as visionally challenged, what next. And in REAL bad taste is the term BOONG, which is slang for an Australian Aboriginal, simply because it is the noise they make when you hit them with your bull bar. Now I've upset most of you, I suggest you go to Australia, you will hear that expression in country areas quite often. I could go on, but Asif will probably blast me. All I can say is that, from my experience all countries have racist attitudes and slang towards someone somewhere, mostly, it's just in fun. Some of the best jewish jokes I've heard from Jews, same with Arabs, same with Aboriginals and the same with most 'racist' jokes. I've even heard Maori call other Maori 'black bastards'. Common sense is whats called for, not PC.

Anna, look it up on Google, you will be amazed.

What a pickle!

Yes, as Andy rightly said, its the intent behind the word that really is the issue, however, here in the UK it is synonymous with the racial hatred period inthe 60's and 70's hence the stigma attached to it. Unfortunately that stigma is also associated with the Union Jack Flag as it was the hallmark of the far right movement here. People still get offended by seeing the flag in certain ethnically diverse areas!?!?!?!? It is afterall the flag for these fair isles, see how "anchoring" works people?

My Aussie friends use the phrase with abandon, as to them it is merely a contraction, like Brit, Aussie etc. I can only speak for myself however, the term doesnt bother me, and am myself consciously trying to eliminate all PC doctrines from my shallow mind at all times.

So to Jon, my "Kiw-ussie" buddy, no blasting going on here dude! We are all human, and its only words, its the intent (energy) behind it that hurts and offends.

Peace

Asif
