Therapists Working in Palliative Care - For Qualified Massage therapists

Tutor: Annie O’Dell

This workshop will look at the practice of massage supporting seriously ill patients as well as patients in the terminal stage of their illness.

This day has been designed to familiarize students who may already be familiar with the clinical area and is necessary for those who have not worked in a clinical area before. We will look at the do's and don'ts of working in the clinical setting.

We will also look at how people respond to illness, and how to modify your massage to enable you to work safely when massaging a person who is seriously ill.

There will be some practical work during the afternoon to focus on correct positioning for the patient as well as ensuring safe posture for the therapist.
Annie O'Dell is a qualified therapist in massage, aromatherapy and reflexology. She currently works as lead therapist at St Georges Hospital NHS Trust in Tooting, South West London, and Parkside Oncology Clinic in Wimbledon.
