BTEC Sports Massage Diploma for Qualifed Therapists -

What will I Learn on the sports massage course?
You will be taught advanced remedial and deep tissue techniques in order to provide more effective treatment before and after sport or exercise, which will assist performance, help to prevent injury and aid recovery from injury. You will deepen your understanding of common sports injuries, be able to offer appropriate treatment or referral and will further expand your knowledge of the effect of use and overuse on muscle anatomy and physiology.

If you have no previous massage qualifications, for the first ten weekends of the 17 weekend course, you will be studying for the ITEC Diploma in Holistic Massage (inc. Anatomy and Physiology) for which practical and theory examinations will be undertaken. Upon successful completion of these exams you will be able to practice professionally as an Holistic Massage Therapist, whilst still studying for your Sports Massage Diploma.

The Neck
The Shoulder
The Wrist and Hand
The Lower Leg
The Ankle
Upper Back
The Elbow
The Thigh
The Knee
Practical treatment techniques:
Ice treatment
Bandaging
Client care, ethics and conducting consultations
Compression
Stretching and Exercises
Massage techniques:
Pre and Post events
To reduce muscle fatigue
Muscle energy technique
Physiological benefits
Neuro-muscular technique
Is the Sports Massage Diploma course only applicable to those wanting to specialise in Sports Massage?

No! - These techniques are applicable for the treatment of anyone with tense, tight muscles and are invaluable for all massage therapists.

Can anyone take the sports massage course?

Yes! If you are new to massage therapy you will need to undertake the diploma over 17 weekends. If you currently hold a recognised qualification in Massage, Anatomy and Physiology (ITEC or equivalent), the course is taken as a postgraduate qualification over 8 weekends.

What are the sports massage course requirements?

50 hours home practice inclusive of case studies (for qualified therapists)
1/2 hour practical examination
2.5 hour theory paper

After qualification you can join the APNT, BCMA and EMBODY
