This is a very practical, hands-on training, focusing on therapy skills. It is the most widely recognised massage syllabus in the UK and across a range of countries and between us we have been teaching it for many years. We are all passionate and committed massage therapists, who also have a variety of other therapy skills. We can add the depth of our experience to your learning and all of our teaching is in the context of how you can use these skills to help people.

As well as teaching you how to massage superbly, we can open up the world of networking with others across the complementary field. We’ll show you how to work safely and seek medical advice from the medical profession. We’ll guide you to research material to help with your ongoing learning and we’ll be available for tutorials both in class and the start and end of each class day and also by email during and after the course.

Course Structure

ITEC set a minimum number of 50 ‘guided learning hours’ to cover the Holistic Massage syllabus. We exceed this as we believe that these extra hours will provide a more in-depth learning experience for you. It gives us time to support individual students with their learning. As well as teaching days, students will be given a manageable number of home study assignments, important for those of you who have families and/or are working.

The course is structured in three sets of two day blocks with an assessment day. This is an ideal blend of immersion in intensive study with breaks in between to allow you time to assimilate the material, practise your skills and complete home study assignments and case studies.

Course content

This course will not only show you how to put together a full massage treatment, but will help to make your anatomy knowledge come to life. We’ll teach you:

* Health & Safety legislation and clinic hygiene
* Taking a client history
* Indications and contra-indications and staying safe
* Assessing treatment objectives
* Understanding the specific benefits of massage movements
* Referring to other professionals where necessary
* Carrying out a full treatment
* Treatment reactions and aftercare advice
* How to maintain ongoing client care
* How to maintain good working posture and good therapist health

A key element to our teaching is to establish good working habits at the training stage. This includes posture and mobility of the therapist which we get right, which is why we are busy working therapists with over fifteen years pain-free treatment experience each. Learning will be supported by a comprehensive manual, which will include revision tips, details of other learning resources such as research websites, suggested books and DVD/videos to help you. It will contain all the information you will need relating to ITEC’s examination process and your tutor will guide you through what you need to know.

Entry requirements

Students must hold (or be taking concurrently) the ITEC A&P Diploma. Important: Students should note that when taking ITEC’s holistic massage module, they will also need to attend ITEC’s Professional conduct and business awareness module and take an exam in that also.

Exams and Registration

There will be a one hour multiple choice exam paper set and marked by ITEC on both holistic massage and professional conduct and business awareness. They will both be taken on the same day. There will also be a practical massage exam, which is held at your training venue and observed by an ITEC external examiner. The fee for processing this is £90 per student for the theory and practical exams, which includes a practical pre-exam assessment with feedback and marking of your case studies.

This is only payable if and when you want to register for the exams. We will register you for the exams and will book the exam dates to follow as soon after the end of the module as is practicable and this will allow time for your revision. You should note that if you need more time with your learning you can register and take the exams at a later date. We will be arranging exam dates twice yearly.
