Our bodies tell our story..
From the day we are born we are walking testaments of every kind of input, be it physical, mental or emotional; every influence literally becomes part of the way we sit, walk, stand and move about in our daily lives.
Sometimes these patterns lead to every day aches or pains, which we first notice when getting up in the morning, driving, playing sport or working out in the gym, or we just find, like Leonard Cohen, “we ache in the places where we used to play”.
Or you may just wish you could be more supple and fluid in your hobbies, your sport, your work or in your life.
Why Hellerwork?
Hellerwork can help you to unravel these mysteries. It is designed to relieve stress and pain. It improves and re-balances the posture and alignment of the body. It enhances movement and flexibility and overall energy.
Developed by Joseph Heller in the USA, Hellerwork works with the connective tissue – specifically the form of connective tissue of the body known as fascia - in a series of sessions that allows the restoration of the body to unfold in a logical sequence..
The goal is to produce physical results as well as to educate and empower you to grow, change and continue the process of change yourself, bringing about permanent and effortless improvement through greater self- awareness.
What is involved in a session of Hellerwork?
The sessions themselves are an enjoyable combination of deep tissue massage, movement re-education and dialogue helping you become aware of body postures and movements that are hindering you and to find more rewarding ones.
It is quite possible to experience a pleasant sensation of “lightness” and freedom of movement after just one session and, with practice and repetition, these feelings can replace habitual ones of pain and frustration.
What is a Hellerwork series?
Hellerwork typically involves a series of eleven 90 minute sessions, with each session concentrating on a different part of the body. The great thing about Hellerwork is that once you’ve experienced the process, your own awareness will mean you will only need to return when you want a ‘top-up’.
However, you do not need to commit to the whole series of Hellerwork. If you prefer, you can come for just one session to experience the work, or to see if it would help your particular need.
My background
With my degree in Physical Education and a passion for studying movement through my riding and sport, a chance meeting with another Hellerwork Practitioner inspired me to train in this amazing bodywork therapy.
Having successfully completed my training with Joseph Heller and Roger Golten in London and California, I returned to Edinburgh to set up the first Hellerwork Practice in Scotland.
My work has continued to be influenced by other specialities such as Continuum Movement and Craniosacral work.
Prior to becoming a Practitioner I ran my own successful marketing consultancy.
