Qi means life-force and is a word used in Chinese healing methods to describe the underlying energy which gives life to everything. Similar to "Prana" in Yoga, Qi is essential for health and for all things to have movement and form. A non-physical, subtle energy that gives rise to all physical matter, Qi is sometimes referred to as the essential force in the universe that gives rise to everything in the universe.
When Qi is not flowing, when Qi is stuck or stagnant, things begin to spiral downwards. A pure, flowing river supports life but when the water is blocked, things begin to stagnate and rot. In a similar way, when Qi becomes blocked and stagant in the human body illness and pain result. To enable the re-establishment of proper Qi-flow the ancient Chinese devised sophisticated yet simple methods to achieve this. One of these methods is called Qigong whilst herbal medicine, acupuncture and Tai Chi also bring similar results.
