Quiet Your Inner Critic - Grow Your Business

By Jenn Givler

Have you ever been afraid to offer a product or service in your business fearing that it's not quite perfect enough? Or, have you been afraid to put an idea into motion because you don't feel you have all the pieces in place yet?

We all have an inner critic. Sometimes, that inner critic serves us well by pushing us to make something really great. But sometimes, that inner critic goes on over-drive and actually hinders our progress. Think about this - there is no such thing as the right time. And, there is no such thing as perfection. Think about it - what exactly is perfection? Or, when exactly is the right time? Each person has their own ideas about how things are perfect or when the timing is right, so how can there be one set definition of "perfect?"

You could make excuse after excuse about why you can't do something. In reality, anything could hold you back from bringing forth your gifts. Or, you could simply put yourself out there, and see what happens.

Another thing that could stop you is thinking that your product or service isn't as good as someone else's - that they have more expertise than you do, and their offering must be miles ahead of yours. When we compare ourselves to other business owners, we may perceive that our creation isn't as good as their creation. We are all individuals with a unique message. Comparing yourself to someone else is truly like comparing apples to oranges. Even if they are offering something similar your product is still going to be wonderful - it is expressed in your unique voice, with your unique ideas.

Your voice is different than everyone else's - including those in similar businesses. You are not going to express yourself the same way they do, and you should not be expected to take the same path as they do in order to see success. Yes, there are certain steps to take to bring success about, but we all have our own unique way of getting to success.

Nothing is set in stone - things can and will evolve in your business. Just because you write up your business plan today, doesn't mean you can't ever change it. Your plans, your products, your services - heck - even the title you give yourself can and will change as you grow and evolve.

If you're not growing, you're stagnant. It's only natural that things will change as you work with clients. As you get to know your niche and what they want, your offerings and your business as a whole will rise up to meet those needs.

So tell that inner critic that it's time for you to go big in your business. Set a goal this week to complete a task or put something out. Put yourself out there and see what happens!
