14 Ideas to Create Prosperity
By Steve Nobel
Money is better than poverty, if only for financial reasons.
~Woody Allen
1. Money is never the real issue.
When I see coaching clients they often have a presenting issue involving money. What I have discovered working with different people is that money is never the real issue, there is always something deeper involved. This does not mean that you shouldn’t explore better strategies for improving your finances. It means that money is never the real issue to primarily focus on. The real issue is whether or not you are living the life you want to live.
One of the greatest affirmations we give ourselves is earning and attracting money from doing what we love. There has been a study of wealthy people, and the main finding was that the majority of successful people are both doing what they love and what they are good at.
2. Money is a form of feedback.
Money is one way to gauge how well you are doing in the world. It is not the only kind of feedback available, or the most important. Money is one source of feedback. There are others, intuition, gut feeling, and what other people say and do in response to you. In NLP there is a saying ‘There is no failure only feedback’. Therefore it is wise not to use feedback in a failure frame. Instead use it to confirm your course or adjust your actions. Do not use any kind of feedback to confirm that you are a bad or stupid person.
Just important as the quantity of money flowing through your life is the quality that comes with that financial flow. Some people have a rich quantity and a poor quality. The question to ask is how much joy or fulfilment do you experience with your money flow. Do you love the way money comes to you? Do you love the way it flows away from you to other people?
Debt is a form of feedback. It tells us whether we are in an upward or downward spiral. Not all debt is bad. A downward spiral is where debt is accumulated through through trying to cope or avoid feeling bad. This may involve various forms of retail therapy. This is the downward spiral. The upward spiral is where debt is entered into more consciously in order to fund a dream or long term vision. Some people go into debt through funding a fantasy rather than their dream. A fantasy is a head trip that is disconnected from reality. This is the downward spiral.
3. Money is a form of energy.
There is an idea put forward by a number of spiritual teachers that money is a form of energy or Prana. Whether you accept that or not, the idea that money is energy is a useful analogy. Money is one kind of fuel that helps us move through the journey of life. To continue with the analogy, when considering any kind of journey it is important to know that you have enough fuel for the trip, that you have a big enough storage tank, a good means of transport and a reliable map.
4. Prosperity is about money and so much more
By and large we live in a world that is addicted to scarcity. Even though we have enormous wealth this has not reduced the amount of problems or fear in the world. If anything the world has become an even more anxiety producing place. Prosperity is about ‘enoughness’. It is about having enough money and other good things in your life. It is about accessing inner resources such as creativity, imagination, joy, peace, power. It is also about having access to external resources such as money, supportive networks, enjoyable and rewarding work.
Prosperity is about living a whole and joyful life, it is not about fretting about pensions or investments, it is about engaging and leveraging what you have now to your full advantage.
5. Prosperity happens from the inside out
People who experience prosperity in the world do so from the inside out. This is about an expansive way of believing, thinking, feeling, choosing, perceiving, speaking and acting. Likewise scarcity happens from the inside out also:
Scarcity = anxiety, fear, constriction, contraction, helpless, insecure, anxiety, denial, fantasy, serious, heavy, pessimism, cynical, limitation, and problem thinking.
A person who is anxious, confused, cynical, hopeless, and pessimistic is less likely to be interested in creating meaningful goals to move toward. Such a person would be more interested in avoiding pain and problems.
Prosperity = adventure, awareness, celebration, creativity, expansion, empowered, fulfilment, hopeful, humour, joy, possibility, playful, and vision. A person with a bright, expansive, hopeful and optimistic outlook is more likely to generate juicy goals and then achieve them.
Positive thinking that is aligned to positive being and doing is one thing, positive thinking that tries to cover up limiting being and doing is another, and the latter does not work.
6. To open to prosperity, defrag your mind
One of the greatest blocks to success and prosperity is having a cluttered mind, with too many goals, too much information and especially being too busy.
Stop taking responsibility for sorting out other people’s problems, stop being overly concerned with other people’s needs. Be discerning about the information you take on, file stuff away, clear your clutter, start saying yes and no and meaning it. Time management is important. Creative people keep expanding their choices in order to avoid taking a choice.
7. Start attracting prosperity, stop repelling it Money as energy can be attracted, directed or repelled by the core state of our consciousness. The biggest attractors are gratitude, enthusiasm, passion, inspiration, vision and the great repelling forces are anxiety, confusion, doubt, desperation, fear, guilt, and low self-worth.
Some people just seem lucky when it comes to money. Luck is a strategy. For over ten years psychologist Richard Wiseman conducted a research project into luck. He researched people who experienced persistent good or bad luck throughout their lives. He worked for several years with over a thousand volunteers examining their personality differences on a number of different levels. His findings were revealing, he found that lucky people are more likely to achieve their dreams and ambitions because they think differently to unlucky people. They expect to be happy and successful and see bad luck as being short lived. Lucky people tend to persevere in pursuit of their dreams or goals and they can turn misfortune into good fortune. Lucky people tend to enjoy meeting and connecting with people, they use body language that people find attractive and inviting, they smile and make eye contact more than unlucky people and they tend to have more open body language. They are more likely to initiate conversations and are more effective at ‘building secure and long lasting attachments.’ They create strong network of friendships and optimise there chances of a lucky encounter. His research points to luck being something we generate ourselves.
Choose love over fear and peace over worry. Bless your debts; you can put a message of appreciation on the cheques when paying your bills. Practise cleansing the money that passes through your hands, imagine light flowing into it that will be passed onto the next person that receives it.
8. Believe it and see it
Expanded belief is the foundation of prosperity, constricted or limited belief leads to the experience of lack. Process and question what you assume about reality. Beliefs - Money is hard to come by, or does not grow on trees, or corrupts or money goes to money, leads to experience that reinforces belief. Positive belief that I am lucky around money, it is a plentiful resource, always have my needs met…
At a metaphysical level beliefs affect our reality, when we change a belief external reality shifts. This is the idea that the outer world is a mirror for the inner.
To really be successful and prosperous in life you need to align three levels of belief: that what you want is possible; that what is want you can achieve; and that you deserve to have it happen.
9. Imagine being associated into wealth
The Buddha said “There is no way to happiness. Happiness is the way.”
Practise associating into wealth, associated means you can see it happening to you, around you. Being disassociated means that you can see it happening to you. Associated means, if you believe it then you can imagine it. It is hard to create something unless you can imagine it happening.
Actors visualise themselves performing well, this is associated. If they were to visualise themselves looking at themselves performing well, this would be disassociated. Being associated works well to connect into an experience, being disassociated works well to separate from something like a fear or phobia.
10. Focus on what you are good at.
In order to move into earning money from what you want to do start to focus on your strengths. Even if you are in a job you do not enjoy what are the things you do well there? Start to know where your talents and gifts lie.
A friend of mine gave me an interesting piece of advice he received from a millionaire. Take a piece of paper and write down 7 things you are good at and want to do in the world. Anything that is not on this list do not spend time doing, get someone else to do it for you. Focus on what you are good at.
11. Set some (positive) meaningful goals
Set both short term and long term goals. Focus on what you want rather than on what you do not want. Some people are motivated to avoid pain and problems, others to achieve. Know your motivation strategy. If it is exclusively around avoiding problems, then start to include something you want to happen.
The unconscious does not understand things phrased in the negative. Try not thinking about a pink elephant. Goals need to be set in the positive.
Prosperity thinking is about developing an outcome thinking mindset instead of a problem avoidance mindset. It means actively thinking about what is wanted rather than what is not wanted. It is about setting meaningful goals and pursuing them. It is about defining
what prosperity means to you.
12. Take Small Steps in Pursuit of Your Dreams
Perseverance is the way. The Japanese philosophy of Kaizen, advises us to take small steps. There are three principles to bear in mind about effective change: Small changes are easier to commit to than massive leaps;
Small changes are easier to instigate and integrate; Small changes add up to incredible change over time.
As Lao Tzu says "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step."
Research shows that if you do something different, however small, for 30 days, you can change an unconscious habit. If you want to do something different with your work how about taking a different route to and from your work each day for a month? See what happens.
13. Allow prosperity to come to you from many directions
When I had a full time job I believed that the only way money could come to me was through my 9-5 job. Now it comes to me from many different directions.
How many different ways do you allow money to come to you? Portfolio living and working is a new way of allowing money to come to you. Open to one new way money can come to you this week.
14. You can be prosperous and spiritual
Albert Camus said It's a kind of spiritual snobbery that makes people think they can be happy without money. One of the lessons on being on the earth plane, I believe, is to learn to manifest your reality, to create all the things you need from your inner resources. We are here to learn how to have fun, to play, be creative, live an adventure, stretch, be all that we can be. We are here to learn about being in the flow.
Creating miracles with the Higher Intelligence of the Universe, you choose whether or not you live in an intelligent and supportive universe, to the extent we feel connected to the universal source of energy we can begin to co-create a different reality. The same intelligence and power that births and sustains the stars is available to help.
The rule of thumb is that this power can only help to the degree that we understand that we are channels for power. If we see this power as existing outside ourselves and plead for help it cannot flow through us or through others towards us.
