Being Psychic in Music
By Rev. Juliet Nightingale
Something that I have come to realise recently is how much I’ve used my psychic ability in all aspects of my work in music. Perhaps part of the reason I’m required to rely on my psychic ability in music so much is due, in part, to my being so visually impaired. Whether on stage or in the studio, there is much eye contact and body language between singers and musicians in order to alert and cue one another for certain passages, etc. I need to put my psychic acuity on max so that I can know just what needs to be done at any given moment; and it never seems to fail me either.
A few years ago, I started participating in a writer’s night locally and a talented singer, Terri Lynn, in sheer faith, asked me to join her on stage and sing back-up and harmony vocals with her—“whatever comes to you”, she said. I’d never even heard the songs before that she was about to sing. I didn’t even know what style or rhythm they’d be in! But, sure enough, all I had to do was hear the first measure and off I went into singing perfect harmony with her on all her songs! People were so impressed; they made comments about it all evening. Now people are approaching me about singing their songs and doing session work in the studio, etc. I became Terri Lynn’s harmony singer, and have also recorded on her CD, Terri Lynn In Tears.
Ever since I was a wee lass, I’ve always had a special gift for being able to sing perfect harmony with whatever song or music I hear. I could do this even if I’ve never heard the music before—as evidenced by the above testimony. I sang perfect harmony with two lads working on a song in a local recording studio—again, having never heard the song before. I’ve sung behind lots of fine songwriters at Mike Williams’ “Six Chair Pickin’ Party” and have seen numerous faces light up as they heard me harmonising along with them. This same type of incident is what landed me in my former band, Higher Choir—having heard their music and singing harmony on the first go-round—and I was with them for two and a half years before moving to Nashville.
Another thing that I’m able to do is learn a song or piece of music very quickly and this comes in very handy when working in the studio or having to rehearse for a show. My former bandmates, Craig & Holly, had been singing Craig’s songs together for 18 years when I joined the group, but I was able to learn their material in no time and land us several gigs. We were so tight in the way we sang, no one could tell that I was the newcomer. The music and the powerful vocal harmonies were exquisite! I will always cherish my time spent with Higher Choir.
Indeed, I am realising the profundity of being able to just dive into a piece of music and sing perfect harmony on the first go-round and, believe me, I feel extremely humble as a result. I’ve been going through an amazing process of self-discovery as a result of my music and everything creative that I do. Now it’s clear how truly psychic it is and it is this psychic attunement that allows me to do this work so well.
People have expressed so much awe at what I’ve been able to do musically—ever since I can remember—and I feel a profound gratitude for this gift. It is interesting, indeed, to realise just how much I use my psychic abilities in all aspects of my life—but especially in my creative endeavours! Is it any wonder, then, that so many psychic practitioners are also very talented in many creative fields?
I’ve even remembered how people would wonder how I could paint and draw such perfect likenesses of people, landscapes, seascapes, etc., without actually being able to see them through my blind eyes. “I see them with my heart,” I’d say. Then, with a grin I’d tell them I’m psychic.
Our psychic awareness is another wonderful example of something that is deeply integrated into so many aspects of our lives. We don’t even realise it on a day to day basis, but being alert, paying attention and listening to our hearts is how we make great use of this special gift that is our birthright.
For me there is nothing more magical or blissful than being able to sing and play music. Every time I’ve composed music or written a song, I’ve felt the miracle of a newborn babe. I never fail to feel such awe and wonder every time I’m participating in some musical endeavour. It fills me with such joy and gratitude that I am able to experience such an outpouring of love and divine power through my music. It gives me a profound feeling of euphoria every time I’m on stage or have created new music! It doesn’t matter if I perform for a few or a few thousand; the experience is the same.
Being psychic in music and all of my creative endeavours has enabled me to have so many rewarding and fulfilling experiences and make wonderful accomplishments throughout my life—despite any physical limitations. For some this may appear miraculous, but for me it is natural and can be had by anyone.
Herein is another shining example of the sacred use of psychic power and awareness. Indeed, all of this is greatly woven into the majesty and wonder of how the divine is made manifest in our lives. Music evokes a powerful communion between one another and the divine. It fills our hearts to overflowing with love and indeed it can inspire us and give us the strength to overcome the greatest challenges in life.
It is with love that I am honoured to share with you through art, music and the written word.
