Better hearing, better perception

Ear candling treatments can range from plain to fancy. They may be simple appointments to get the gunk out of your ears, in which a friend or a professional uses the hollow cones to pull out stuck wax and debris, all done while chattering away. At the other end of the spectrum are very serious healing sessions, energywork, where a client may have some significant challenge of health or well-being and a practitioner works not only with the cones but with the consciousness, and with some esoteric knowledge of how ear cones were used in ancient times to clear blockages and facilitate spiritual progress. Both types of earcandlings are very gentle, basically simple, and are useful tools for good health, and life improvement.
For anyone not familiar with the use of ear candles or cones, you may learn that a number of health problems are related to clogging of the ear and the passages leading from it to systems throughout the body. The ear regularly produces nice wax to provide a coating on these amazing and delicate parts of our bodily machinery, but trouble occurs when it is out of balance. The relatively simple matter of dealing with excess wax buildup is routinely handled by medical professionals at considerable expense and discomfort. Fortunately, these days we have access to information which empowers a better understanding of our own health needs. We are rediscovering the healing techniques of native peoples and ancient cultures which are usually not only simple and efficient, but effective in ways new to our understanding.
Ear candles are hollow cones, or candles, made from pure cotton, usually muslin, which has been dipped in some kind of candlewax - paraffin, soy or beeswax. Sometimes healing herbs are added to enhance the process. The small end is inserted into one's ear and the other end of the spiral is lit, sending gentle smoke down through the candle into the inner ear, sinuses and lymphatic system. A vacuum is created which pulls excess wax and microscopic debris and toxins out of the ear and into the cone by osmosis. One's face is usually protected by a towel or foil-wrapped paper plate from what little heat the open flame produces. Lying on the side, fully-clothed, most people only hear a tiny crackling sound while the candle is burning, and feel only relaxation. Some simply nap.
The earcandling process can clear and re-align subtle energies within the body. It has been used in conjunction with first-peoples' initiation rituals, and has the potential to serve as a powerful clearing tool spiritually and emotionally, as well as physically. One who is conscious of this opportunity and wants to work in this way to restore balance and release negativities of whatever type can receive great benefit from even one session. It’s a good tool for renewal - when one is ready to leave something behind and go forward. For example, it’s especially indicated for one who has experienced a loss, had a significant life-change, or is leaving behind a detrimental habit like smoking.
Depending on the practitioner's approach, an earcandling may take more than an hour. Repeated candlings are recommended for those with significant build-up of wax, chronic sinus problems, those recovering from harmful substances such as nicotine and various toxins, and special needs of other sorts being treated in conjunction with other therapies.
Ear candling is notably painless and can be pleasant and deeply stress-relieving as the body completely relaxes and accepts the healing of the smoke and the accompanying aromatherapy and healing sounds which may be used to enhance a session. If any unusual sensations arise after a candling it may indicate only that energies are self-adjusting, oil may be needed to soothe an ear that has had too many candles, or if the ears feel stuffy additional candlings may be needed, to remove more wax.
A feeling of change may or may not be noticed, right away, or days later, but one is assuredly in better condition after an earcandling than before. Of course, while ear candling can be helpful in the transition from marginal health to wellness, it should be understood that they are basically a home-remedy and not a cure-all for everyone, and the ear candler is not a physician or licensed to assume liability for the use of them.
Earwax and debris that is removed is visible when the candle is cut open. For many people, the really exciting part of having an earcandling is just seeing the amount of earwax that comes out! Some folks don't want to know what was in there, some can't wait to see, and some even want to take it home in a little baggie to show others! It is not a matter for shame if a large plug of wax comes out of your ear - actually, those who believe they have kept their ears spotlessly clean by using Q-tips are often the ones who have the most packed old wax to remove. Seeing it flushed away feels really good.
