How just 10 minutes a day can dramatically improve your life!

By Michelle Jones

In May 1995, I thought I had it all. A successful management career in Human Resources and Training with a national company; a happy marriage, two growing boys...then disaster struck. A motorcycle accident ended my career in a heartbeat and I was left with endless days of nothingness stretching before me...but then something strange happened; without all that clutter in my head, the childminder and school runs, the busy busy work life, the intense homelife with two children under 7 - I found I actually began to feel genuinely better than I had for years. It was like a huge spring gradually uncoiling until there is no tension left in it! I rediscovered my creative abilities, my spiritual and psychic abilities, which I had had from a very young age developed and flourished like a flower that has finally discovered sunlight after being kept in a cupboard.
This revelation led me to thinking...if we all had a little time to really remove some of that clutter, then surely we could all benefit from that sense of sunlight.
The trouble is of course - and I can almost hear you all shouting at me now - that most folks do not have the luxury of lots of time on their hands. The constant battering of modern life is hardly conducive to peace and inner calm...
So what I would like you to do is this; make ten minutes in your day to just sit and meditate.
'Meditate!'...I can hear you screaming now! 'I don't have time to meditate!' ...But you can spare just ten minutes. This short and achievable little segment of your day, spent wisely, can really provide some very positive effects. Try this:
Sit quietly, take a couple of long, slow, deep breaths, in through the nose and out through the mouth...
Visualise or 'see' in your minds eye, long roots growing from your feet right down to the centre of the earth. Draw up the bright energy of the earth through those roots to your feet and then slowly up your legs to the base of your spine. A deep red light will be switched on the energy here, watch it for a moment and then feel it move up to your navel, where it will switch on an orange light. Watch it for a monent and then feel it move up to your solar plexus where it will switch on a yellow light. Watch it for a moment and then feel it move up to your heart where it will switch on a pink light. Watch it for a moment and then feel it move on up to your throat where it will switch on a blue light.Watch it for a moment and then feel it move on up to your brow where it will switch on a violet light.Watch it for a moment and then feel it move on up to your crown where it will switch on a bright white light, rushing heavenwards through the top of your head.
Just sit and feel it for a moment and then bring it down, back down through your crown, brow, throat, heart, solar plexus, navel and base of spine, switching each light off as it passes through each point. Feel it drain down through your legs and feet, down through the roots to the centre of the earth. Now draw the roots up through the earth, back to your feet, where they will vanish. Take another couple of long, slow, deep, breaths and gently come back to the room. Have a glass of water to help you really feel awake, and grounded.
You may now feel more relaxed, focused and ready to face your day. If it is the evening, this exercise can also help you to unwind and be ready for sleep.
Just ten minutes...surely this is worth a try?

Now, whilst you were within the meditation, you may also hear little voices inside your head...these may be your guides and guardians, gently encouraging you. They try so hard to 'get thhrough' to us, but most of the time, we do not even know they are there...
If we have decisions to make, we often pray for guidance, but if we do not make the space to hear the answers, we may be missing out.

Sometimes, as in my own case, more drastic action is needed to make us sit up and really listen...I look upon that accident as a blessing; without it, I would probably still be chasing my tail in the cut throat corporate world. By making me stop, I was forced to lsiten, and as I grew and developed, I realised that here is a truly vital clue to our own success. Listen to those Inner Voices, whatever, or whoever you think they are; they give good advice...all you need then, is the courage to follow it...
