Releasing Guilt
By Jody Christopherson, CHt.
"I give you an inch and you take a mile." My mother's favorite quote was long forgotton to me.
When I was young those words made me hang my head in shame whenever I came home late from school or from play. I was expected to always be prompt and any deviation came with a lecture and a good dose of guilt
In my twenties I worked for a company who brought in a man to conduct lie detector tests on all the employees due to money being missing from the office. The company knew who had taken the money, but in order to get the person to confess they had us all hooked up to the machine for our tests. A week or so later my supervisor told me that the person had indeed confessed, but advised me that I had failed the test, also.
He said the man told him that some people just have a "natural guilt complex" and don't do well on lie detector tests.
'I give you an inch and you take a mile."
During the training for my hypnotherapy certification I was regressed back to my youth and related this long forgotton information regarding my mother's quote. My instructor then had me review the senarios through my adult eyes, as well as my inner child's eyes. I realized that my mother was only trying to keep me safe in the only way she knew how. If she layed on enough guilt, I would come straight home from school or play, not putting myself in a situation where something undesirable would happen to me. Now I understood. The sting of those words are gone. Through hypnosis I "Let Go" of years of guilt that had been hiding there in my subconcious mind.
I no longer accept invitations just because I feel I should. Nope, no guilt there. If I want to go, I'll go. If I feel like passing, I do!!!
I no longer feel guilt because I take time for myself. If I want to spend the afternoon reading a book, I read the book.
I Let Go.
