NO, NO, NO, It does NOT cost too much to be healthy!
By Linda Hogan
I hear this so often and I want to tell you that it just isn’t so. There are simple, inexpensive, if not free, changes that you can make that will have a tremendous impact on your health and quality of your life.
Being a woman who has learned to listen to her intuition, whenever I want to write an article or teach a workshop and don’t come up with a topic readily, I call upon my wild angels, spirit guides or quirky subconscious to give me a relevant topic. I’m not sure who answers my call, but they usually have a sense of humor and I receive the subject matter in the form of a song ,while standing in the shower. I’ve been serenaded by Elvis…Fools Rush In Where Angels Fear to Tread, and The Beach Boys … Good Vibrations. But this time I heard the Hollies singing loud and clear, All I Need is the Air that I Breathe And to Love You……Hmmm, I guess I’m supposed to write about breathing, but love who? Ah, yes, it’s you….my body. Not hard to make the connection standing here in the shower. In the shower….that’s it!. What are two things we cannot survive without? Air and water and they are practically free.
Hey, we all breathe don’t we? Most of us breathe inefficiently. We don’t get all the healing and stress relieving benefits out of it that we can. Did you know that the average person’s breathing mechanism is functioning at only a fraction of it’s potential? “If you can get the breath full and free and functioning at good capacity, your endocrine system, your circulatory system, all the other systems, your nervous system, are also going to improve: because they are all tangled up with the breathing.”
Most of us breathe shallowly and from our chests when we need to breathe diaphragmatically. When you inhale the diaphragm goes down and the belly pops out. When you exhale, the belly flattens and the diaphragm goes up. This is opposite of the way most of us breathe. “ Breath is life. Breathing is our most primal function. It affects, and is affected by every level of our being. It is totally automatic, yet it is completely within our control. As such it is a bridge between the conscious and the unconscious, a force, a tool: for health, growth and change.” If you’d like more information about the benefits of breathing and how to do it correctly you should check out the website of Dan Brule’. http://www.breathmastery.com.
We need to become aware of our bodies and check in with them once in awhile. Last week when the temperature was so hot and humid, I noticed at one point that I was dragging my body around and also that my brain was feeling very foggy. “Hey, what’s the matter with you” I said. “Breathe” was the answer I got. “You’re not taking in as much oxygen as normal because of the increased humidity.” After a few deep belly breaths, my energy returned and brain returned to normal. I was aware the rest of the day and stopped once in awhile to do some conscious breathing. There is no tax on air, so enjoy it! Go to the beach, or stand outside a bakery, breathing can be heavenly.
Water, although good quality water is not quite free anymore, is still very inexpensive. I have a water filter on my faucet that screens out impurities and bad taste. It is less expensive than buying bottled water and saves running to the store to get it. I pour it into a liter bottle each morning and take it with me.
Our bodies need water to survive and we Americans do not drink enough. Did you know that only 34% of Americans drink 8 glasses of water a day? Many drink more than their share of caffeine loaded beverages such as coffee, tea, soda and alcohol. Americans average 41 gallons of soda per year. These products have diuretic properties and increase water loss. For each glass of these beverages that you drink, you should drink an additional glass of water.
Someone, knowing of my passion for inexpensive and preventive health care, sent me the link to a very interesting site on the web. www.watercure2.com.
I was very curious about the health claims and the simplicity of the program. Drink ½ of your body weight of water in ounces, daily. Use ¼ tsp Celtic, or unprocessed sea salt per quart of water you drink. This sea salt contains at least 80 minerals. For example, if you weighed 155 lbs you would need to drink 77.5 oz of water daily. In addition you would use ¾ tsp of sea salt per day. The health claims and testimonials were so amazing that I thought I’d give it a try.
I don’t recommend any treatment to my clients unless I’ve tried it and found it successful. If this worked, it would help a lot of people. I believe that the earth provides us with everything we need to get healthy and stay healthy. I was a little skeptical because I had cut salt out of my diet years ago and knew that usually when I eat a meal in a restaurant, my hands swell and I feel bloated. How can adding salt to my diet be a benefit? And, they were asking me to add a lot of salt.
This program is even promoted as a cure for Edema. The theory is that most people are actually living in a state of dehydration. Even if you drink a lot of water, it is not absorbed well by your cells and passes right out of the body. You still remain basically dehydrated. The addition of sea salt to the water structures the water and makes it recognizable for the human body. Well, that made sense but I still did not believe that I could consume that much water and salt and not swell-up. I know that your body needs trace minerals to thrive and regenerate itself and that certainly can be found in unprocessed sea salt. I decided to try it for a day and see what happened.
They recommend using the water and salt throughout the day and not just at meals. I filled a quart bottle with pure water and added about 1/8 tsp of salt. Hmmm, couldn’t really notice the salt at all. I sipped this during the morning and then at lunchtime sprinkled salt on my meal….Wow, I hadn’t tasted salt in so long that this was an awakening of my taste buds. For some reason, the sea salt did not taste as salty as the white processed kind. This was pretty tasty. Throughout the day I continued to sip water that had been laced with sea salt and sprinkled more on my dinner that night. I sipped more during the evening, convinced that I’d be really thirsty all night from my massive consumption of salt. Surprise. I slept well that night and in the morning there was no swelling at all. I did the same the second day and before going to bed that night, noticed that I didn’t need to put any lotion on. My skin felt moist.
I’ve been doing the water and salt program for a week now and the most remarkable difference is in my skin, which is tighter and feels wonderful. I have not had acid reflux and my thinking is definitely more focused and clearer. There are even claims that you lose weight with this program. .
Research by scientists and medical colleges has proved it to be a valuable aid in curing certain cancers, heart diseases and strokes as well as dissolving kidney stones and healing peptic ulcers. There are testimonials from many people who have used the program for various diseases and had wonderful results. I know I will continue the program because it makes me feel good and I love what it is doing for my skin. I’m very happy to have found another inexpensive treatment for my clients.
So, let’s not hear anymore of this talk about the cost of being healthy. Go grab a few of those luscious red tomatoes or some of that fresh sweet corn that we are still blessed with at this time of year and sprinkle away. Maintaining health can be as easy as that.
Before beginning this program or any health program, you should consult with your doctor. If you have Congestive Heart Failure, kidney disease, or if you’re taking diuretics, you should ask your physician about increased water intake and it’s risks.
