Describing Hot Stone Therapy
By Ariana Vincent, RMT, MTI
Hot Stone Massage Therapy is a thermal extension of Swedish massage and Aromatherapy which incorporates the use of smooth, heated basalt stones placed on key tension areas of the body to carry warmth deep into the muscles, tissues and joints. In addition to the placement of the stones on key spots on your body during the session, the therapist systematically glides warm, lubricated stones over the surface of your body applying gentle but firm pressure to the musculature for a deeply relaxing and unique experience. The profoundly penetrating heat of the hot, smooth stones and Aromatherapy oils combine to add a whole new relaxing dimension to the traditional Swedish massage. Therapeutic stone massage promotes physical and spiritual balancing by using the energies of warm volcanic stones to relax the body at its deepest level. This ancient healing modality moves energy to depleted areas, relieves sore muscles, and produces a soothing and meditative state of peace, calm and balance.
