Pink and Fluffy? Or Hard and Fast?
By Carl Munson
Popularised by Internet-hyped, docu-movie The Secret, the Law of Attraction is now known by perhaps millions who may now feel that their ideal partner, dream home, lusted-after car or fantasy job is within easier reach.
This Law, given those aspirations, as well as its popularity among New-agers, has understandably developed a somewhat pink and fluffy, navel-gazing reputation, so it's refreshing to see the work of Srini Pillay (an M.D. and Asst. Clinical Professor at Harvard Medical School) who's offering a scientific, medical perspective that may underpin the concept with some rational footings, satisfying those of a more skeptical nature.
According to radio host Jewels of Law of Attraction Talk Radio, who has recorded a milestone interview with the man, Dr Pillay's scientific studies of brain imagings "prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that the Law of Attraction is authentic", and furthermore, that the good doctor's work "confirms that science and spiritually now verify each other" on this matter.
Pillay's book 'Life Unlocked' certainly looks an engaging read, being wide-ranging in subject matter and application. But from my perspective, I'm particularly interested in what he had to say in conversation with Jewels, about some of the harder aspects of life - such as prejudice, victim identity and rape - that those more pre-occupied with 'stuff' manifestation may generally shy away from.
In these excerpts from Jewels' hour-long interview, Dr Pillay offers a new, more progressive and useful angle on prejudice, tackles the limitations of being a 'victim' and faces squarely the issue of whether a victim of rape "creates their own reality".
