Does Network Marketing Really Work

By Linda Wilson

There’s a very simple answer to that question. Yes, Network Marketing does work.
In the right hands.
Network marketing is a business, just like any other. If you’re a business owner, then your main priority is to sell the products or services that you provide. Whether the business is a major PLC, your local butcher, or the guy who cleans your windows. Somewhere along the line, someone sold these services or products to their customers.

How they sold them varies immensely, but the end result is the same. As most business owners know, they can spend a fortune on advertising, much of it wasted.

Referrals, or word of mouth, are usually considered the best way of gaining new customers.
That’s how most Network Marketing schemes work, and, if done correctly, they can work extremely well.

For many of us however, Network Marketing is synonymous with Pyramid Selling. This is unfortunate, as most companies involved with Network Marketing are respectable, and scrupulously honest when dealing with customers. Pyramid Selling, on the other hand, developed a reputation for being less than up front, and is now banned in the UK.

Let’s look at the basis of Network Marketing. We frequently recommend to friends and family a good book, a restaurant, a favourite place to visit, a good deal we’ve had on a new purchase,.

When we do this, it’s because we want to help that person. We want them to enjoy what we’ve enjoyed. Likewise, when we’ve made a bad choice, we let them know, in order to steer them away from making the same mistake.

That’s exactly what Network Marketing is all about. Those involved represent a product or service that they truly believe in. So they share it with their friends, family, workmates.

A good networker knows when not to push; not everyone will view your latest business with quite the same rose tinted glasses as you. It’s not worth precious time trying to convince sceptics. They don’t want to be convinced. Show them what’s on offer, then back off. It’s certainly not unusual for someone to contact you several months down the line. Again, don’t push. Just tell them the truth, ‘yes, I’m still involved in xxxxx, and yes, it’s going really well. I’m glad I joined, it’s the best thing I ever did.’

Network Marketing isn’t for everyone, but for those who decide it’s what they really want to do, then the sky is the limit.
