My Journey into Sound

By Wendy Scott

My spiritual jorney started following falling ill, as it often does. I had been in a highly stressful job meeting traumas everyday, and after many years of constant exposure my immune system became affected and I developed 'burn out', resulting in Chronic Fatigue Syndrome & Fibromyalgia. General medicine was unable to offer anything other than advice to rest and medication. I started to look at self-help alternatives, which led me to a reiki treatment. I decided to learn Reiki 1 and following this innitial attunement my life started to subtly change for the better, some aspects involved hard learning experiences.

I went on to learn Reiki 2 and found my abilities to cope were greatly enhanced, I was more able to reflect on the traumas of the past. I also started to follow a shamanic path which richly heighten and strengthen my spiritual resolve, and I started to feel reconnected with the universe, a oneness with the earth and a realisation of community with all beings on earth.

I went on to develop a path of learning reiki which is never ending and all encompassing. The potential and qualities it brings into my life and that of others, is all inspiring and enlightening. This has developed from Egyptian Sekhem and Cartouche to leading to travelling on several spiritual trips to reconnect with Egypt.

My journey leads on to rediscovering the healing ways of sound.

The beauty of music touching the soul strengthens and reconnects you with the universe. The power of sound is all encompassing, strengthening and touching every cell and fibre of our bodies, of every inanimate object, vibration being an essence of all things. The mystery of sound is the mystery and the magic of the universe, it is the way to our soul, talking and healing and feeding our bodies.

As I have come to explore the use of crystal and tibetan bowls and the power of the ancient gongs and the talk of the drums, it has only heightened this mystery. The magic that they bring with their healing powers is so powerful it is beyond words. They can transform lives, balance our bodies and heal at the deepest cellular level of our very being. The beauty of connection to the instrument is of oneness, for they immers your very being in harmonics of sound frequencies which are ever changing.

When we pay attention to nature's music we find that every thing on earth contributes to its harmony. The trees jouiusly wave their branches in rhythm with the wind; the sound of the sea, the murmuring of the breeze, the whistling of the windd through the rocks, hills and mountains, the flash of the lightening, and the crash of the thunder, the harmony of the sun and moon, the movements of the stars and planets, the blooming of the flower, the fading of that leaf, the regular alternation of morning, evening, noon and night - all reveal to the seer the music of nature. The birds chant in unison their hyms of praise. Music is the only means of understanding among birds and beasts. This may be seen by the gradation of pitch and volume of tone, the manner of tune, the number of repitions, and the duration of their various sounds. These convey to fellow-creatures the time for joining the flock, the warning of coming danger, the feeling of love, and the sense of sympathy, displeasure, passion, anger, fear and jealousy-making a language of itself.

We experience five different aspects of the art of music: the popular, that induces motion of the body; technical, that whcih satifies the intellect; artistic, that which pierces the heart; uplifting, that in which the soul hears the music of the spheres.

The mystery of sound is mysticism; the harmony of life is religion. The knowledge of vibration is metaphysics, and the analysis of atoms is science; their harmonious grouping is art. The rhythm of form is poetry, and the rhythm of sound is music. Music is the art of arts, and the science of all sciences, and it contains the fountain of all knowledge within itself.

Music is called a divine celestial art, not only because it is itself a universal religion, but because of its fineness in comparioson with all other arts and sciences. Every sacred scripture, holy picture or spoken word produces the impression of its identity upon the mirror of the soul, but music stands before the soul without producing any impression of this objective worl in either name or form, thus preparing the soul to realise the infinite.

My life is changing and taking better turns, brought from the feelings of detachments to reconnection and understanding, touched by the all inspiring oneness and soul connection. My path of learning is ever continuing.

My work with sound as medicine is intuitive and from the heart through the eyes of the soul. I draw on my previous life experiences and training in counselling and life coaching and offer individual and group sound sessions with crystal and tibetan bowls, gongs, drums, monochord sound stool and other indigenous instruments, to facilitate the complete immersion into sound.
