Brand new phytonutrient rich, soy based product - ‘TianTian’

By Alison Rees

Cornish company Ecoflow Plc has launched a brand new phytonutrient rich, soy based product called ‘TianTian’ that is set to take the ‘wellness’ market completely by storm because as independent distributor Alison Rees says ”It is extremely good for you but it tastes as if it shouldn’t be” With obesity and related health problems on the increase, Alison is on a campaign to get everyone thinking seriously about diet and well being. She said: “The huge nutritional benefits of soy protein have been widely acknowledged for decades. In fact the evidence for soy protein to promote heart health has convinced organisations such as the British and the American Heart Association to encourage the consumption of soy as part of a healthy diet.”

TianTian is a delicious phytonutrient rich, soy based concentrate but, and here’s a really big selling point, it doesn’t actually taste like soy!  In fact extensive taste testing was carried out with people of all ages, including teenagers who traditionally hate anything that is good for them, before the final formulation and taste was given the stamp of approval. TianTian can be diluted for drinking, mixed with yoghurt, frozen in sorbet or used as an unusual ingredient for cooking.

Until now traditional soy products have often lacked the taste needed to appeal to Western palates. TianTian was specially developed to address that particular issue and at the same time provide a good balance of natural ingredients. The product is non GM and suitable for vegetarians. TianTian concentrate is rich in Phytonutrients, Isoflavones and Anti-Oxidants. It also contains Lutein known to be beneficial to skin and eye health.

Speaking at the product’s official launch in October 2004, Aedin Cassidy who is Professor of Diet and Health at the University of East Anglia and an internationally renowned expert in the field of soy isoflavones talked of the growing demand for functional foods with specific, demonstrable and quantifiable benefits. She outlined the value of TianTian’s ingredients and described it as: “A convenient solution to help meet our nutritional needs.” She went on to explain: “Diet is an important determinant of our health and the health benefits of dietary compounds like folic acid and soy isoflavones are of significant interest in nutrition research at the moment.”

Phytonutrients occur naturally in soy and are similar in structure to the human oestrogen hormones important for the health of bones, heart, brain and the female reproductive system. Phytonutrients are acknowledged anti-oxidants and play an important role in general good health and well being for both men and women. Western diets lack sufficient phytonutrients with the result that, in stark contrast to many Eastern populations, there is a greater susceptibility to cardiovascular disease, cancer and other health problems.

Isoflavones are particularly important to post menopausal women who are at risk from health problems relating to oestrogen deficiency. Isoflavones have been shown to decrease the risk of developing osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease and symptoms often associated with menopause such as hot flushes.

Lutein is important to eye health. It is associated with lowering the risk of developing cataracts and has been shown to protect against free radical damage to the retina, one of the main causes of age related macular degeneration.

Ecoflow is a trusted name. Well known for developing the famous ‘Bioflow’ magnet, an effective and highly successful complementary health device used for pain and symptom management in a wide range of conditions. The company’s chairman, Paul Markland said:

“Ecoflow is among the leaders in the ‘wellness’ market and that is where we aim to stay. We have been very keen for some time to come up with a high quality soy based product that will have wide appeal. However we wanted our product to be a little different from usual ‘run of the mill’ soy drinks. TianTian (which is Mandarin Chinese for ‘Daily’) will bring important health benefits to a whole new audience of people.”
