The Subtle Signs of Stress

By Darlene Siddons

We all are given signs of stress by our minds and bodies. The trick is for us to pay attention and recognize those signs. In our busy lifestyles that we all tend to lead, the signs of stress can be overlooked until it becomes chronic and turns into dis-ease.

Nerves: When we can't sleep, our stomach is upset, we have all said, oh, it is just my nerves. What it really is, is our bodies telling us that it is out of balance and please pay attention to your care of me. Look for life situations that you do, you may be eating properly, taking the right supplements, exercising right, and even meditating. Then right before you go to bed and/or after you eat dinner, on goes the TV and you watch the late news, or Fox news, or some other program that gets your stress level up. So pay attention what you are doing and how you are doing it. Look for the early signs of stress before it gets chronic.

Headaches: Many things can cause headaches, and one major thing is stress. Pay attention what activities you have been doing, foods you have eaten, upsetting conversations you have had, upsetting situations that have occurred in your life and then go backwards to where your headache started. Once you identify the stress, you can do something about it. You can eliminate the things that you found that cause it and/or at least attempt to diminish those things/people/places in your life.

Unrest: That feeling of unsettledness that seems to lay in the bottom of your stomach, yes, that is usually stress. Sometimes it shows up as a feeling anxious, like when you almost hit someone in the car or they almost hit you. Then that feeling of unrest consumes you and unless you release it and let it go, it just keeps building into the other events of the day. There you are, in the midst of a good session of stress.

Basically pay attention to your life and your activities, keep a journal of your day; get pro-active in being in charge of your life. Stress comes out in your body in all kinds of dis-ease, heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, inflammation, arthritis just to mention a few, so take charge of your life and make a goal to diminish your daily stress by at least 3 points in the next month.

Thought of the Day: "Take care of your body with steadfast fidelity. The soul must see through these eyes alone, and if they are dim, the whole world is clouded." -Johann Wolfgang von Goethe-
