Reiki Healing

WHAT IS REIKI HEALING?
Reiki Healing (pronounced as "ray-key") is a revitalising, hands-on healing energy. The word in Japanese means "Universal life force energy". Reiki is basically transferred by an initiated person to others or himself when hands are placed on the body.
Reiki is a powerful and gentle energy which is mainly used for stress release and thus healing. Emotional and mental stress is now accepted as the cause of many physical illnesses and by clearing the blockages formed in our energy channels Reiki can help in healing many conditions. It helps relaxation, increases vital energy and regulates sleeping disorders.
Whilst receiving a Reiki treatment the patient may feel heat, coolness or a tingling coming from the therapists hands. Deep relaxation and a peaceful calm is often reported by anyone that is receiving Reiki.
Reiki is a positive form of energy and cannot cause any harm. It does not have any side effects and it only serves for the highest good of the person who is receiving it.
Reiki is not a religion it is a healing energy.
HOW DOES REIKI WORK?
Traditional eastern medicine suggests that our physical body is surrounded by a big ball of energy which is made up of several layers. These layers are connected to the body by energy vortexes, or chakras, each one associated with an important gland in the body. We also have energy channels running through our bodies and these are called meridians.
Negative thoughts and emotions are converted into chemical reactions produced by the glands, so they become physical. When we run these thoughts and emotions over and over in our minds, the energy channels start getting bent or blocked around certain areas of the body. Because this blocks the free flow of the body's natural energy the problems eventually manifest as illness.
Reiki works just like a powerful flow of water through pipes, i.e. the energy channels through the body, flushing out the blockages, opening the nodes and correcting the bent ones. The mental and emotional stresses are released and thus the physical disturbance. While medical doctors are helping to cure disease at the physical level, Reiki is assisting them at a deeper level. This is why we may call Reiki a complementary therapy.
HISTORY OF REIKI
Reiki was rediscovered in the 1920’s by Dr Mikao Usui. Dr Usui was president of a Japanese Christian University. Whilst teaching about Jesus, 2 students asked ‘How did Christ heal’? Dr Usui could not answer. He left the University, starting a 10 year world-wide search for the answer. Finally, he found original Sanskrit Buddhist sutras with ancient symbols that he believed might be a healing formula to help him contact a higher power that could provide healing.
Before passing over, Dr Usui initiated about 2,000 students. Only 6 or 7 of these reached the top of his teachings. One such person included Dr Chijiro Hayashi. Dr Hayashi agreed to pass on Reiki knowledge to others. One of the students that Dr Hayashi attuned to Reiki was Mrs Hawayo Takata. It was Takata that brought Reiki into the western world. Takata spent the rest of her life sharing Reiki and initiated 22 Masters before passing over.
