The Reiki Revolution
Reiki is unique therapy amongst other complementary therapies, treating the body as a whole and allowing you to balance the mind, body and soul using Universal Energy. Many people have heard of the word Reiki but know little about the therapy itself and it’s origins, so here is the low down on Reiki, what you can expect to gain from the therapy and how you can learn this healing art for yourself to take control of your own life.
What does Reiki actually mean?
Reiki is a natural healing system that uses variable frequency energy to heal. It can be used to heal any condition, whether physical, emotional or spiritual and anyone has the potential to learn Reiki.
Reiki originates from Japan where the founder Mikao Usui discovered this healing art whilst on a 21 day retreat on Mount Kurama in Japan. Usui called Reiki “the miraculous medicine of all diseases” and it is now used by over a million people worldwide to treat people with a wide variety of physical and emotional conditions.
Some hospitals in the USA and UK offer Reiki treatments. In the UK we now have a Reiki healer who is actually on the NHS payroll called Angie Buxton King. She works in University College Hospital in London. Reiki is gradually becoming more accepted by the medical community as a valuable complementary therapy. Celebrities such as Nicole Kidman and Marie Helvin are also realising the benefits of Reiki as well as the general public at large.
How Can Reiki Help Me?
Reiki can help anyone with physical, emotional and spiritual issues. Below are a list of just a few of the benefits of Reiki:
•Reiki induces an extremely relaxed state allowing you to think more clearly and make wiser and healthier decisions about your life.
•Creates calmness, reducing worry and stress.
•Heals the pain connected with past traumas in your life (e.g. bereavement, lack of parental affection, traumatic relationships etc) so they no longer taint the choices you make in your present and future.
•Helps to relieve physical conditions by working on them directly at the correct frequency. Reiki can be used to benefit any condition but a diagnosis is necessary.
Some of the problems we have treated are: sports injuries, back pain, broken bones, muscle wastage, allergies, addictions, cancer.
Reiki helps you to look in on your life as an outsider with an outsider’s perspective so you become detached from the every day struggles of your life and are able to view your situation and that of others in a clearer and more purposeful way. You really learn to appreciate what is important in life.
What Does A Reiki Treatment Involve?
Initially the practitioner should fill out a treatment form with the client detailing their diagnosis and medication and discussing the relevant symptoms or conditions that need attention. Once the primary presenting problem has been established the healing can begin. The patient lays fully clothed on a treatment couch with their eyes closed. The practitioner places their hands in various positions above the client’s body channelling energy into the body at the correct frequency to match whatever condition is being treated.
Experiences of Reiki are individual but many people often comment of feeling at the very least intense relaxation, clarity and serenity. For others Reiki is a life-changing event. The treatment can last between 45 minutes and 2 hours depending on individual needs.
What Should A Treatment Cost Me?
The cost of a treatment can vary between £30 and £120+ dependent on the practitioner. The amount of money you pay does not necessarily reflect the ability of the practitioner.
How Do I Choose A Practitioner?
Make sure the practitioner belongs to a recognised association. If possible go by word of mouth or recommendation. Speak to the practitioner on the phone first to make sure you feel comfortable with the practitioner. If possible take a friend with you for the first treatment or if you feel more comfortable visit a female practitioner for safety. Some Reiki websites offer distant treatments. These can be misleading, it is always better to see a practitioner directly as they will have a better understanding of your condition.
What If I Want To Learn Reiki?
Learning Reiki allows you to heal yourself on a regular basis and if you choose, to heal others as well. It is not restricted to those with a ‘spiritual healing gift’, nor is it limited to anyone with a specific religious belief. Reiki can be learned by anyone.
Ensure that the Reiki teacher belongs to an accredited association and teaches an accredited course. Be careful of websites that offer distant treatments and attunements. These qualifications will not be recognised and you cannot guarantee the sort of treatment you will be getting. Make sure you go to a teacher that offers a certified course and gives post course support free of charge.
