Joining Holistic Local

Who can join Holistic Local?

Anyone can join Holistic Local (in the countries we currently operate in) however we are not just another social networking site such as Friendster or MySpace. Holistic Local is an online community of people who are interested in subjects such as holistic health & wellbeing, green & sustainable living, spirituality and personal growth. If those subjects do not interest you then it's unlikely you'll benefit from being a member of Holistic Local.

Is Holistic Local free?

Yes. Holistic Local Community Membership is currently 100% free and all the features that are currently available will always remain free. We may introduce additional premium services at some point in the future.

Our Basic Business Membership is also free, however, we currently offer two premium upgrades to our business members that offer additional features and benefits such as the ability to write an extended business profile and/or create a simple website. These additional services are entirely optional.

Which countries do you operate in?

There are currently 5 Holistic Local websites. These are:

I don't live in the USA, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia or New Zealand. Can I still become a member?

Unfortunately we are not currently accepting registrations from outside those 5 countries, however we do plan to offer services to other countries in the future.

What’s the difference between Community Membership and Business Membership?

Community Membership is our public membership that gives you full access to all the social networking features and the Holistic Local Library, as well as being able to easily find businesses, events & courses in your local area.

Our Business Membership provides all the same features and benefits as our community membership but it also enables you to advertise your business in our business directory.

Which type of businesses are allowed in Holistic Local Business Directory?

We allow a huge variety of holistic, conscious and ethical businesses to be listed in our directory. This includes:

• Holistic & Complementary Healthcare Practitioners
• Therapists, Counsellors & Coaches
• Green, Sustainable & Earth Friendly Businesses
• Fair Trade, New Age, Green and Health Stores & Wholesalers
• Health Spas and Retreat Centres
• Organic & Health Food Restaurants, Farms & Producers
• Holistic Schools & Colleges
• Creatives (Music, Art, Dance & Writing etc)
• Spiritual Healers & Teachers
• Conscious Business & Personal Services.
• Any business or organization that promotes natural health, wellness, care for the environment and sustainable living

Do you check credentials of businesses listed in Holistic Local?

No, we currently do not check credentials of any businesses listed in our directory, however we do manually approve all business listings. Listings that are deemed inappropriate are quickly rejected. If you think we have accepted a business we shouldn't have then we welcome your point of view.

Does Holistic Local have an age limit?

Yes, the minimum age for you to become a member of Holistic Local is currently 16.

I joined Holistic Local but I didn’t receive a confirmation email.

First of all check that you entered the correct email address when you registered. Click on the “Edit Profile & Details” link and then “Edit Account Settings” to check that your email address is correct.

If you definitely entered the correct email then it’s possible that spam filters may have intercepted the confirmation email. First check your 'Junk' or 'Spam' folders to see if the message was accidentally filtered there (this is not uncommon with web mail services like Hotmail or Yahoo).

If you're using SPAM ARREST or other spam blocking services then make sure you whitelist [email protected]

Logging In


I’m having problems logging in. What can I do?

First double-check that you’re logging in at the correct Holistic Local site. There are currently 5 Holistic Local sites.

If you’re definitely on the correct site then double check you’re not mistyping your email or password.

If you still can't log in then please send a message to us through the Holistic Local contact form with your email and password.

I’ve forgotten my password, how can I retrieve it?

If you’ve forgotten your password simply visit our password recovery page and enter your email address. Your password will then be emailed to you.

If you do not appear to receive a password sent to your address then it’s possible that spam filters may have intercepted the confirmation email. Technical Requirements

What browsers are recommended for viewing Holistic Local?

If you’re using a PC then we recommend you use either Internet Explorer (IE) 5.0 and 6.0. Or Mozilla Firefox 1.0 and 1.5.

On the Mac we recommend osX or Firefox / Safari

Make sure you have your javascript enabled or some features of Holistic Local may not work properly.

Editing Profiles

How can I change my email address and/or password?

To change your password simply click on the “Edit Profile & Details” link, then click on the “Edit Account Settings” link.

You will need to enter your new password twice and then click the “Update My Account” button.

How do I change or update my community profile?

To change or update your community profile click on the “Edit Profile & Details” link and then click on the “Edit Community Profile” link.

How do I change or update my business profile?

To update your business profile you must have a Holistic Local Business Membership. Simply click on the “Edit Profile & Details” link and then click on the “Edit Business Profile” link.

Can I change the style of the text in my profile?

We will be adding some basic text editing functions in the near future so that you can bold, underline or italicize your text. In the meantime you can achieve the same effect by adding html tags to your profile text.

Why doesn’t my business listing link to my website?

To link to your website you need to upgrade to our Professional Membership. This also enables you to write a full profile about your business and upload a photograph or logo.

Can I hide my business profile?

Yes. Click on the “Edit Profile & Details” link and then click on the “Edit Business Profile” link. Then change the “Listing Visibility” drop-down to “Hidden” and click “Update My Business Profile”.

Can I hide my community profile?

This feature will be available very shortly.

How do I delete my account?

How can I become a Featured Business?

Our featured businesses are randomly selected from our Visionary Business Members which is one of our premium membership levels.

Sending Messages

How do I contact another member?

To contact another member simply visit their personal profile page and click on the "Send Message" link.

I keep sending someone a message but they do not reply to me.

There are several reason why a member may not reply. Firstly they might not have logged in to their Holistic Local account and read your message. Secondly it's possible that the user has blocked you from sending them messages.

Events

How do I add an event?

Click on the “Events” tab and then click on the “Add Event” link.

How do I edit or delete an event?

To edit or delete an event simply click on the “Events” tab and then click on “Manage My Events”. You should now see all your events listed where you can edit or delete them.

Who can add events?

Both community and business members can add events to our events directory.

What kind of events can I list?

We allow a huge variety of events to be listed. We only require that the event is related to natural or conscious living. Our event categories include:

Courses

How do I add a course?

Click on the “Courses” tab and then click on the “Add Course” link.

How do I edit or delete my courses?

To edit or delete a course simply click on the “Courses” tab and then click on “Manage My Courses”. You should now see all your courses listed where you can edit or delete them.

Who can add courses?

Only Business members can add courses.

Library

Who can add an article?

All members can add their articles to our article database.

What kind of articles can I add?

1) All articles must be original articles that you have written. You may also submit articles on behalf of another author providing you have their express permission and that they are credited as the author.

Anyone found to be submitting other peoples articles without permission, or plagirising the work of others, will likely have their Holistic Local account terminated.

2) All articles must be in some way related to the subject of holistic, green and conscious living. This includes, but is not strictly limited to:

Natural Health & Wellbeing
Healing Arts & Practices
Spiritual Growth & Development
Green & Sustainable Living
Coaching, Psychology & Self Improvement
Art & Creativity
Conscious Business & Marketing

3) All articles should be informative and interesting. They SHOULD NOT be a press release, advertisement, sales letter, or blatant self promotion or hype.

4) Articles MUST NOT contain any content that is a violation of any law, be considered defamatory, libelous, or that infringes on the legal rights of others. Additionally, articles MUST NOT promote violence, racial intolerance, advocate against any individual, or have an insulting, obscene or degrading tone.

If you discover inappropriate content anywhere on the Holistic Local website then don't hesitate to let us know about it. Just send us a message through our main contact form and please copy and paste the link of the page into the message.

Where do I report spammers?

If you feel you've been spammed then please contact us with the URL to the profile of the spammer, with details of how you were spammed. Please contact us here.
